Mexico’s Independence: A Legacy of Freedom

Every September 16th, Mexico commemorates the beginning of its struggle for independence, a historic process that shaped the destiny of the nation. In 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla launched the famous Cry of Dolores, calling the people to rise up against Spanish rule. At his side, brave men and women such as José María Morelos, Ignacio Allende, Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, and Vicente Guerrero joined the cause that sought not only political freedom but also social justice.

After more than a decade of battles and sacrifices, independence was consolidated in 1821 with the triumphant entry of the Army of the Three Guarantees into Mexico City. This victory was not only military—it represented the union of a people who longed for a dignified and sovereign future.

Today, more than two centuries later, Mexico’s Independence remains a symbol of unity, pride, and resilience. It reminds us that freedom and justice are achievements that must be safeguarded every day, and that the true meaning of independence is reflected in how we build our country together.
