Happy Father’s day!
Father’s Day is a special celebration in Mexico and the United States that honors fathers and their influence on family and society. Although dates and traditions may vary in both countries, the main goal is to express love, gratitude, and recognition towards parents.
In Mexico, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. The story behind this celebration dates back to the 1940s. According to legend, a group of merchants in the city of Mexico City sought to boost sales during the month of June. They were inspired by Mother’s Day, which was already celebrated in May, and decided to establish a special day to honor fathers.
The idea was well received and quickly caught on across the country. The celebration of Father’s Day in Mexico includes gifts, greeting cards and family activities. Families often get together to share a special meal, spend time together, and express their love and gratitude toward parents.
Sonora wanted to honor her own father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran who had raised his six children alone, after the mother passed away. Sonora was looking for a day in which fathers could be recognized and thanked in a similar way to how mothers were honored on Mother’s Day.
In the United States, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, just like in Mexico. The history of this celebration dates back to 1910, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, from Spokane, Washington, proposed establishing a special day to honor parents.
Father’s Day in America is celebrated with gifts, greeting cards and family activities. Families come together to show their love and appreciation for parents, whether it’s hosting special meals, outings, or doing activities together.
In short, in both Mexico and the United States, Father’s Day is a special occasion to honor fathers and show them love and gratitude for their important role in family life. It is a day to celebrate and thank parents for their love, dedication and sacrifice.

“At every step of my life, you have been my greatest support and my greatest motivation. Today we celebrate all that you are as a parent. Happy Father’s Day!”
